Long Term Futures is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant for a full-time role within a welcoming secondary school in Enfield. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about supporting Key Stage 3 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them build confidence, develop independence, and successfully navigate the transition through the early years of secondary education.

The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO, teaching staff and pastoral team to provide tailored support for students across Years 7–9. The role focuses on helping pupils access learning, develop social communication skills, regulate their emotions, and overcome barriers to education within a structured and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support for KS3 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
• Supporting pupils during lessons to improve engagement, concentration and participation.
• Helping students manage routines, transitions and changes throughout the school day.
• Delivering personalised interventions to develop communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills.
• Implementing strategies outlined within EHCPs and guidance from the school’s SEN team.
• Working alongside teachers to adapt learning resources and remove barriers to learning.
• Supporting students with organisation, independence and executive functioning skills.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, resilience and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
• Building strong relationships with pupils, parents and external professionals where appropriate.
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Essential Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience working as an ASD Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Behaviour Mentor.
• Experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ideally within a secondary or upper primary setting.
• Understanding of autism-friendly strategies, sensory needs and positive behaviour support.
• Calm, patient and resilient with excellent communication skills.
• Able to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Passionate about helping students achieve both academically and socially.
• Comfortable working collaboratively as part of an experienced SEN department.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one).
