KS3 Behaviour Mentor – Secondary

Commutable from: Enfield, Finchley, Edgware, Potters Bar, Borehamwood, Southgate, Hendon and surrounding North London areas.

Long Term Futures is seeking a confident and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming secondary school in Barnet. This full-time opportunity is ideal for someone with experience supporting young people who display challenging behaviour or require additional pastoral guidance.

Working predominantly with Key Stage 3 students, you will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, improve engagement in lessons, and develop the confidence and resilience needed to succeed in school. You will work closely with the pastoral team, SEN department, and teaching staff to provide consistent support both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group mentoring for KS3 students requiring behavioural and pastoral support.
• Support pupils during lessons to encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and participation.
• Build strong professional relationships that promote trust, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
• Deliver behaviour interventions and implement individual behaviour support plans.
• Use effective de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Support students during breaktimes, lunch, and lesson transitions to encourage positive social interactions.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral leaders, SEN staff, and safeguarding teams to remove barriers to learning.
• Monitor behaviour, attendance, and student progress, maintaining accurate records where required.
• Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals when appropriate.
• Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture where every student can thrive.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Behaviour Support Assistant, Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Pastoral Support Worker, or similar role.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged students, particularly KS3, is highly desirable.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
• Calm, patient, resilient, and able to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Passionate about supporting students’ academic progress, personal development, and emotional wellbeing.
• Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary support team.
• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
