Overview:
As a Catering Assistant with Teaching Assistant responsibilities, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the catering provision while also supporting pupils within the classroom. The provision supports pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs, providing a structured and nurturing environment to help them re-engage with education. As the school develops its vocational curriculum, the successful candidate will also support Food Technology and catering-based lessons, assisting pupils with practical cooking activities, food preparation skills, and employability-focused learning. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to combine catering experience with a passion for supporting young people.

The Role:

  • Support with the preparation and distribution of breakfast, break-time snacks, and lunch (minimal food prep required, meals are delivered from another site)
  • Ensure catering service runs smoothly and maintain a clean, safe environment
    Work as a Learning Support Assistant, supporting pupils within lessons, particularly practical food sessions

  • Support students with engagement, behaviour, and routines throughout the school day
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupil development
  • Full time, 37 hours per week – 8:10am to 3:50pm (4:20pm Thursdays)
  • You must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance (45p per mile)

About You:

  • Must have a car to fetch the food from a local school and bring to the school.
  • Experience working with young people or within a school, SEN, or Alternative Provision setting (desirable)
  • Comfortable working in both catering and classroom environments
  • Previous Learning Support Assistant experience is required
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Willingness to support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain)
