Cover Supervisor – Secondary School

Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only

Long Term Futures are recruiting a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming secondary school in Tower Hamlets.

You will supervise classes during short-term teacher absence, ensuring pupils remain focused and complete the work that has been set. You will not be expected to plan lessons, but you must be comfortable managing a classroom, explaining tasks and maintaining clear behaviour expectations.

This role would suit an experienced Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, tutor, sports coach or graduate considering a future career in teaching.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise classes across a range of subjects
• Deliver pre-prepared lessons and clearly explain assigned work
• Maintain a calm, focused and productive classroom environment
• Manage behaviour confidently in line with school policies
• Encourage pupils to participate and complete their work
• Support students who require clarification or additional guidance
• Record attendance and report any concerns to the appropriate member of staff
• Provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil engagement and lesson progress
• Build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils is desirable
• Strong communication and classroom-management skills
• A calm, confident and professional approach
• The ability to establish clear boundaries and manage challenging behaviour
• Good organisational skills and the ability to follow lesson instructions
• A degree or relevant education-based qualification would be advantageous
• Full-time availability and the ability to commit to a long-term placement
