Long Term Futures is recruiting an enthusiastic and ambitious Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Lewisham. This full-time opportunity is ideal for an English graduate considering a future career in teaching or education who is passionate about helping young people develop their literacy, communication and academic confidence.

Working alongside experienced teachers and the school’s English department, you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering targeted interventions, providing classroom support, and helping pupils build the skills needed to succeed in English. This role offers valuable school-based experience and is an excellent stepping stone into teacher training.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English lessons.
• Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions to improve reading, writing and literacy skills.
• Support pupils with varying abilities, including those with SEND, EAL, dyslexia and other additional learning needs.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation and learning resources.
• Encourage student participation, engagement and confidence within lessons.
• Provide targeted support to pupils preparing for GCSE English examinations.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
• Help promote positive behaviour and maintain an inclusive learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with students, motivating them to achieve their full academic potential.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities where appropriate.

Essential Candidate Requirements

• A degree in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, or a related subject.
• A genuine interest in pursuing a career within education or teaching.
• Experience working with young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, volunteering or school-based settings is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence supporting students with a range of learning abilities and needs.
• A patient, enthusiastic and proactive approach to supporting learning.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
