SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Richmond Pay: £95 – £115 per day Contract Type: Contract Start Date: Monday 13 April 2026 Commutable from: Richmond, Twickenham, Kingston, Hounslow, and surrounding South West London areas.
Long Term Futures is looking for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive educational setting in Richmond. This role is focused on providing high-quality support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
You will work closely with the class teacher and the inclusion team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where students feel empowered to succeed.
Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, implementing tailored interventions to promote emotional regulation and self-esteem.
Assist the class teacher in the delivery of a differentiated curriculum, ensuring learning activities are accessible and engaging for all students.
Monitor and record student progress, providing detailed feedback to teachers and SENCOs regarding academic achievements and emotional wellbeing.
Utilise de-escalation strategies and maintain a calm, consistent approach when supporting students through periods of crisis or challenging behaviour.
Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model to encourage social integration and personal growth.
Support students during break and lunchtimes, facilitating inclusive play and social interaction.
Essential Candidate Requirements
Previous experience supporting children or young people specialising in SEMH, ADHD, or Autism (ASD) within a school or similar setting.
A calm, patient, and resilient temperament with the ability to remain professional under pressure.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students who may have barriers to learning.
A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the complex needs of students.
