Long Term Futures are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant in Derby (DE22) to support a non-verbal pupil with Autism (ASD) on a 1:1 basis within a welcoming primary school in Allestree.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone experienced in supporting high communication needs, using structured strategies to help pupils feel secure, understood, and engaged in learning.

About the SEN Teaching Assistant Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant in Derby, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals to deliver consistent, personalised support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide focused 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
• Support communication using PECS, Makaton, visuals, or similar strategies
• Encourage engagement through structured and play-based learning
• Support sensory regulation and emotional development
• Manage transitions and maintain consistent routines
• Promote independence, interaction, and confidence
• Implement individualised learning and support plans

Ideal Candidate – SEN Teaching Assistant Derby

We are looking for candidates who:

• Have proven experience supporting ASD or non-verbal pupils (essential)
• Are familiar with SALT strategies and communication tools
• Are calm, patient, and reliable
• Can build strong, trusting relationships
• Are confident working within a structured classroom environment
• Are committed to a long-term role
