SEN Teaching Assistant – ASD 1:1 Support

£110–£115 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism (ASD) on a 1:1 basis in a welcoming Derby primary school.
This role is suited to someone who already has experience supporting high communication needs and can confidently use structured approaches to help pupils feel secure, understood and engaged in learning.
About the Role
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to provide consistent, tailored support throughout the school day. Responsibilities include:
• Delivering focused 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
• Supporting communication using PECS, Makaton, visuals or similar strategies
• Encouraging engagement through structured and play-based activities
• Supporting sensory regulation and emotional needs
• Managing transitions and maintaining clear daily routines
• Promoting independence, interaction and confidence
• Following and implementing personalised learning and support plans
This is a hands-on role requiring patience, consistency and a strong understanding of autism and communication needs.
Ideal Candidate Profile
• Proven experience supporting ASD or non-verbal pupils (essential)
• Familiarity with SALT strategies and communication tools
• Calm, reliable and able to build strong relationships
• Confident working within a structured classroom environment
• Committed to a long-term position
