Teaching Assistant – ASD Specialist (KS2)

Location: Barnet
Pay: £95 – £115 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: 27th April 2026
Commutable from: Enfield, Brent, Haringey, Camden, and Southwark.
 

Long Term Futures is seeking a dedicated Specialist ASD Teaching Assistant for a Key Stage 2 position within a supportive primary school in Barnet. This is a full-time, long-term role starting in April 2026, designed to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder in overcoming barriers to learning.

You will work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to deliver tailored support, ensuring every child in your care has the opportunity to excel within the KS2 curriculum.
 

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for KS2 pupils with ASD, specialising in social communication and emotional regulation.
  • Adapting classroom resources to meet the specific sensory and cognitive needs of individual learners.
  • Implementing strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to promote academic and social progress.
  • Collaborating with external professionals and parents to provide a consistent approach to the pupils’ development.
  • Managing challenging behaviour with a calm, patient, and positive reinforcement-based approach.

 

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience working with children with ASD, ideally within a Key Stage 2 environment.
  • A deep understanding of the diverse needs associated with Autism and how they impact learning.
  • The ability to remain resilient and adaptable in a fast-paced classroom setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service or a willingness to undergo a new check.
