Pastoral Assistant / Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School – Hackney

Long Term Futures are recruiting a committed and adaptable Pastoral Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a large secondary school in Hackney, supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

This is a varied role combining pastoral support and classroom-based learning support, ideal for someone confident working with students who require additional support with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), behaviour and special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH, behaviour and SEN needs
• Support pupils both in lessons and during unstructured times
• Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
• Implement behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Work closely with pastoral teams, SEN staff and Heads of Year
• Promote engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience supporting students with SEMH, behaviour or SEN needs
• Confidence working in a secondary school environment
• A calm, resilient and consistent approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
• Background in mentoring, youth work or education (desirable)
