SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Northfield, Birmingham, B31
Weekly Pay: £500 – £525
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only)
Start Date: 01/09/2026
Contract: Long-Term, Temp to Perm

Long Term Futures is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Northfield, Birmingham. You will support pupils with additional needs, including Autism, communication needs and SEMH, providing tailored support to help children access learning, develop independence and make positive progress.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and supportive school on a long-term basis, with the potential to become permanent.

The Role

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
• Support children with ASD, communication needs and SEMH
• Deliver targeted interventions based on individual pupil needs
• Use visual strategies, PECS, Makaton and communication aids where appropriate
• Support emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour
• Encourage independence and help pupils access classroom learning
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
• Monitor progress and adapt support to meet individual needs

What We’re Looking For

• Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification or equivalent
• Previous experience working within a UK primary school
• Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD, SLCN and/or SEMH
• Confident providing 1:1 and small group support
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or visual communication strategies is desirable
• Calm, patient and resilient approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Passion for supporting children with additional needs
