SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Provision (1:1 Behaviour Support)

£110–£125 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary to permanent

Long Term Futures is seeking an experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Nottingham, supporting pupils within a dedicated SEND provision.

This role will involve providing 1:1 support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated behavioural needs. The school is looking for a confident and proactive individual who can build strong relationships, maintain clear boundaries and support pupils who may display behaviours that challenge.

About the Role

Working closely with the SENCo, provision staff and class teachers, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with ASD and complex needs
• Supporting pupils within a specialist SEND provision attached to a mainstream primary school
• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
• Supporting communication, emotional regulation and social development
• Delivering structured interventions and personalised support programmes
• Encouraging engagement with learning and promoting independence
• Implementing strategies outlined within EHCPs and behaviour plans
• Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and their families

This role requires someone who is confident, consistent and able to remain calm in challenging situations while maintaining high expectations for behaviour and learning.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Previous experience supporting pupils with ASD and SEND
• Experience managing challenging behaviour within an educational setting
• Strong understanding of autism-friendly practice and behaviour support strategies
• Experience working with pupils who have EHCPs
• Resilient, proactive and able to use initiative
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Team Teach, Positive Handling or equivalent training – desirable
